Mason’s Haunt
What happens when a world class chef and a master restaurant manager get together? The answer is Mason’s Haunt. Chef & proprietor David Herring and manager Jim Wright are definitely doing it right. They were kind enough to let me roam around the kitchen with them – watch the short video below. All I can say is that if I could give five stars – Mason’s Haunt would get them.
Above is chocolate chip cookie cheesecake (play video below in popup). Does your birthday boy or girl have a favorite cookie or candy bar? Dave can make you a special cheesecake with a little notice. Mason’s Haunt Restaurant & Spirits is located at 3317 Masonboro Loop Road Wilmington NC. Call them at 910-796-9992. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday – Saturday and now with a new Sunday brunch!

We tried the new Sunday brunch today at Mason’s Haunt and the menu looks really good. I had “Steak and Eggs” two poached eggs, beef tenderloin topped with a perfect hollandaise. It was the best! How does a fried oyster, spinach and cheese omelet sound? Or how about southern veggie-okra, tomato, onion and peppers? Oh, and you really should try the home made donut – well worth the extra calories!
Until tonight, my husband and I whole heartedly agreed with your 5+ star rating. Something has changed. It is not the same restaurant, not the same atmosphere, and most definitately not the exquisite food to which we have grown accustomed.

Hi Paula, thanks for your comment. Mason’s Haunt is under new management and perhaps some changes. As much of the staff has remained on, I hope the same quality of food and service can continue. Let’s give them a chance and see what happens.
I must add however that we miss Dave and Jim and wish them all the best.
My brother and I stopped in at Mason’s Haunt for a late lunch today and we could not stop talking about the great food. We started with the wonderful homemade potato chips w/ Ranch dip, then we had the Crunchy Grouper Rueben, which is corn flake battered local grouper on thick cut rye bread with swiss cheese, slaw and 1,000 island dressing. It was awesome! Stacey was our server and she was efficient and friendly. I will definitely go back to Mason’s Haunt!
