Who Are We?
A flock of these fascinating water birds showed up yesterday and hunted and pecked high-steppin’ it across the yard. Click on the image to see eight shots over two days. If you are the first person to identify these birds, you will receive an original autographed print of your choice!
Photos taken in a series August 16, 2007 with Canon G7.

Ben — I think that’s the Parsley branch from Iowa that we’ve never met. I heard my granpappy describing them as a bunch of high stepping, food free-loaders, and he said the women dressed fance with those feathery boa things — so it must be them. Give ‘em my regards — I don’t wanna come within 10 miles of ‘em. So my ID’n them is The Iowan Parsleys. —- am I first? K
I’m thinking the wood stork.
I already said storks. I win. Where’s my free picture?
I submit glossy ibis. Please look at this site and listen to them calling.

I thought Glossy Ibis too, but I could not tell from these pictures if the feathers were indeed glossy, I’m sticking with wood stork.
Off to Atlanta for a week for work. Deep South. Deep Heat. Deep Humidity.
I am afraid that this is not solved yet. It could be a stork, wood stork, or akin to the glossy ibis. But, look at the coloring. I can find nothing that looks like it in my books and web research.
I love…

thanks Linda et al!
drum roll please. It’s an Ibis. I saw these same birds on UNC-PBS special on coastal Carolina. There is a bird refuge close by and on occasion a few wander by. They just called it “ibis” with no mention of “glossy ibis”. We also have white ibis. Watch for picture(s).
So, I think the winner is either a tie with Benjamin in LA and Linda OR no winner. :-/
